Abstract
Prior projects have started to investigate the potential of cooperation among mobile devices in terms of higher data rates and lower energy consumption. To improve the efficiency of the communication among the mobile devices, network coding seems to be a promising candidate. In this project the focus is on understanding and creating network coding potential for cooperating mobile devices. In phase one we wish to investigate whether the effect of packet losses in the wireless transmission can be mitigated by the use of network coding. In other words, understand to which degree the nature of the wireless channel will create coding opportunities by diffuse packet losses. In the following phases we will extend the results from phase one and investigate various strategies by which coding opportunities can be created "artificially" by e.g. seeding packet to the cooperative mobile devices.
